edit to previous post:

The spaceship is a WIP in conjunction with a friend of mine who is a neurobiology and astro-somethingoranother double major at Duke who is developing a physics-based space simulator around "large-mass objects with independent propulsion."
We're sort of imagining a cross between MS Flight Simulator and Escape Velocity (by Ambrosia Software, look it up!)

The sci-fi requirement is: some sort of faster-than light drive and the ability to defend against debris (taken care of in the respect that the solar panels fold into themselves) ...and SPACE PIRATES!!!

Any links to speculative fiction welcomed.

Real world requirements are: Atmospheric re-entry (taken care of) Vertical take Off and Landing (taken care of) And cargo transfer (presumably via the giant fold-down ramp in the front.)

Still working on the scale of the thing, but I'm imagining it being an intergalactic container ship, using mostly current or near future technology. Currently, the VTOL engines and the the warp engines are the only "crazy" things.

I know I'm totally nerding out here, but this single 3d max file is becoming so epic to me that I feel like I need more input.

I can whip up additional views on request.

Some space-shippy goodness in partyfile #1. It's a work in progress...meh...advice via sketches for engines and/or cargo holds now open.

YO: how many different designs can we submit? More than one per person?

Yann, that was extremely well-written, informative, and jovially fun to read! All of the sound clips illustrated the respective ideas pretty well... the music sounds quite good too. I think I can get into the accordion.

a remarkably self-centered and preachy little explanation about audio production that I made today (complete with audio samples!):

Ha ha. It looks like the digital toaster of the future, complete with bread slots that are perfectly invisible when not in use.

1 terabyte = $999 = www.yellowmachine.com

You know, just in case we want a file server that looks like a prop from Sphere.
