this looks like a pretty sweet alternate to half.com / ebay when dealing with media. http://bit.ly/cOxdQL

their killer feature is that they mail you the packaging / postage, kinda like netflix or something.

HEY! I didn't link this last week, but http://www.morgancahn.com/ - lookit that! some sweet art!

Just because you can shoot things doesn't mean you should shoot things... Seriously, that video is awesome.

Are you working on a racing game, Jon? I got sucked into that article on pseudo 3d graphics.

eli.pousson posted about 1 year ago

I have often though about it, but I probably wouldn't use pseudo3d, because at this point it is much harder than just cramming a bunch of points and textures into the graphics card and letting it do the heavy lifting.

the technique is an interesting sidenote in the history of high performance computer graphics tho. It applies to a bunch of other areas, see: http://www.romancortes.com/blog/pure-css-coke-can/

also, if I was to do a racing game, it would probably be something in the style of katamari (fucked up tank on two rotating tracks) + a privateer / taxi game. Except the passengers in your cab would be like music loops or something, and you could take them to KISS FM to make bank.

has anybody really though about that control scheme, and how weird it is? I seem to recall that virtual on used a really similar control scheme, but other than those two, I can't really recall any thing that has that particular type of dual stick.

cue zach to tell me all the various mecha games that I am overlooking.

JonBro posted about 1 year ago

*pant* *pant* I was way over on the other side of the internet!

Steel Battalion shipped with its own dual stick dashboard (cockpit?).

Here you go:

Zach posted about 1 year ago

haha, thanks man...

I can't really tell if both of those sticks are controlling movement (katamari/virtual on), or one is controlling movement and the other is controlling aiming (robotron / gridwars / every console fps)

// edit:

oh christ, it is much worse than I expected: http://www.steelbattalion.org/controller.php

but, yeah, it looks like more or less that the left controller (+ foot pedals) control movement, and the right is aiming.

// edit2: oh god more context:

http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/03/column_robotochan_shooting_the_1.php#more

maybe armored core uses this scheme as well? I don't have time to read this whole article.
